Royal Blue: Valima Look

Hi Everyone!

Wow it has been way too long since i brought you a desi outfit look! And it’s been over 2 months, since i’ve dressed up for a desi event. So  here’s my first desi look of 2016! Hope you guys love it!

The first weekend of January, we were invited to a Valima (basically a wedding reception hosted by the grooms family), and it was quite cold that night! Not that that ever helps when wearing desi clothes, but i just wanted to mention the weather lol.

Anyways, so a little story about this outfit. Originally, i got this made in 2012, when my cousin got married. However, the shirt + dupatta, we wore on her wedding/baraat/ruksati day, but instead of the pants underneath (which is how i wore this look for this valima), we wore them over ghararas. But at the time, my mom was smart and got pants made too, so we could reuse this outfit in a more casual/less fancy way, and basically got two outfits for 1!

Now i LOVE blue, as you all know, so i love this outfit! It was my first time wearing it with the pants (smh, as i’ve had this for 3 years, but forgot about it until now ), and everyone loved how it turned out!

This outfit is custom tailored in Pakistan, so i can’t provide any details of how to get this for yourself!

Take a  look at how it turned out:

The outfit incorporates the gold and pink on the border of the shirt as well as the dupatta. The bottom/border of the shirt is all ‘bale’ work. Not actual handwork/thread work, but just other cloth with design on it that was sewn on top of the shirt.

I like the pink & gold work with the blue, because it adds color and more to the outfit. I paired it with my nude heels, although i need to get my hands on a pair of gold heels for upcoming weddings! Suggestions of where i can find this are welcome!

Here’s few more snaps of the detailing on this outfit!

Let me know what you guys think of this outfit!

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram to stay up to date on my blog!

Until next time, XOXO

  1. I love the combination of colours of this outfit! I’ve actually been on the hunt recently for a salwaar kameez and a lehnga for an upcoming wedding. I’ve actually really been liking the dark blue with pink and gold combi so this is a total coincidence!

      1. Yes, definitely! Would you also happen to know where I can find more inspiration on the latest trends? I definitely will! The wedding is in July. I can’t wait!! She’s my best friend so I’m seriously excited, haha.

      2. Oh that’s awesome! my cousin is actually getting married in may iA, so i’m on the hunt myself for inspo and designs of desi clothes because i need to get clothes made as well! Do you have an instagram? I would use the search there and search various hastags like #pakistanidresses #desiattire etc, and you should find some stuff there! And if you have a pinterest? My sister found a lot of outfit designs and inspo there as well! Hope that helps! Keep me posted! We’re in the same boat 🙂

It may help us help each other with insipiration! This is my Pinterest page: https://nl.pinterest.com/Varshalalala/ I’m sure we’ll find the perfect outfits! My dad is actually going to India in March, so I’m going to have to be quick to select the style and colours I want!

      5. My IG is varshalalala 🙂 Hahah! Hey, Pinterest with two people is always fun xD My mom used to use pinterest through me that way too, until I convinced her to get one herself since I live across the world..
Ohmygosh! It’s all so exciting, though. I don’t know how I’m going to figure everything out but I know it’ll be exciting! I’ll also have to get everything ready-made, which makes things a little harder too.. Hopefully I can get enough inspiration to explain to my friend and grandma in India so they can get some stuff for me..

Ok ready made isn’t bad, you can still find good variety and colors! But yeah, make sure to give/explain the colors and styles you want exactly! Can’t wait to see what you and i both end up with! 🙂

      7. Hahah, apparently I was already following you! So there’s that. 😛 Haha. I’ve been living in the Netherlands for the past 5 years.. (time flies by so quickly..)
Yeah exactly! But I’m so picky when it comes to desi clothing!

      8. Hahah, the Netherlands is nice. I come from a tiny island in the Caribbean, so moving here was a huge step for me. And yes! I’m here for uniii. The joy, haha. The things we do for education..
Yeah definitely! Do you happen to know what colours are in right now by any chance? I get the feeling the colours of your outfit in this post are in because I kept seeing them everywhere on websites! Or it’s because I just really like that combi haha.

      9. Oh wow thats awesome! What are u studying? And i feel that light/pastel colors are realllllly in these days! I mean honestly, all colors can really work, but i’m seeing alot of light greens, light pinks and gold/whites! But yeah of course, blue gold and pink works too! since i need a few diff outfits for my cousins wedding (desi weddings are so many days long) i’m thinking of having a balance between colored/fun outfits and then more sophisticated pastel outfits for other days!

      10. After two years of indecisiveness, I finally settles with English Language and Culture (even though I barely have any English subjects right now).
Oh really? Pastel? I haven’t seen those yet! And omgosh I know! Desi weddings need multiple outfits.. Sometimes fun, sometimes tricky (when having to actually pick outfits). My best friend’s wedding will be just two days. They’re jamming Mehndi and Sangeet in one day and the next day will be the pheras and the reception. So, that calls for 3 outfits, haha. I actually have a saree I wore to another wedding three years ago. But I feel like I’d be wearing it “again” you know? I mean if it were just another wedding I’d wear it, but it’s my best friend’s wedding! So basically I’m only making it more difficult for myself hahah.

      12. That’s true! It makes me feel so special, haha. Only thing is, this time around, there’ll be no custom made blouses and petticoats for me.. Unfortunately tailors in the Netherlands are rather pricey and most have no idea what it takes to custom make a saree 😛
